Last week, the County of Sonoma decided to suspend all Special Event Permits through July 31st. While we were optimistic about our July 19th date being far enough out, the public health officials have determined it is not.

The good news is that our operations team had been proactively working with the local authorities on an alternative date should this happen. We are pleased to announce that our new date has been approved! The 2020 Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon and Rose’ 5K will be on the weekend of December 12 and 13, 2020.

Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new event date.

5 Reasons why this is good news

  1. Cooler temperatures! Instead of breaking a sweat on Butt Burner Hill in the July heat, you can cruise up it in December when the average highs are in the 60’s.
  2. Holiday Cheer! The trees in Sonoma Plaza will be decked out for the holidays, so many twinkling lights.
  3. Mulled Wine – ‘nuff said.
  4. Holiday-themed vendors at the expo! Our sales team will be hard at work to get new vendors to the expo so you can get all your holiday shopping done while drinking wine.
  5. Extra training time! You’ll get an extra five months to train

While we are very excited about moving the race to December, we understand that a December race and a July race are very different and you may already have plans for December. If that’s the case, we are offering the following options:

Option 1: Attend the rescheduled event on the weekend of December 12 & 13, 2020. No action is needed, your registration will be automatically transferred.

Option 2: 100% deferral to the 2021 Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon, scheduled for July 17 & 18.

Option 3: Full transfer to a different race, PLUS 50% off your 2021 Napa to Sonoma registration. See below for the list of available races.

Option 4: Transfer to the Virtual Race, PLUS you’ll receive a 50% discount on your 2021 Napa to Sonoma registration  What’s included in the virtual run? Shirt, medal, wine tumbler, pairing gift (if applicable), and sponsor swag. We’ll be sending out the virtual run packets in mid-August, so you’ll have several weeks to get your run completed and submit proof.

The deadline for choosing is May 31, 2020. If we do not receive a response from you by then you will be automatically transferred to the rescheduled race date.

Additionally, we are actively collaborating with a worldwide network of industry professionals that are working closely together to help modify events considering the current situation. As our event grows closer, please keep an eye on your inbox and visit our social media channels for updates regarding the event.  While we are doing everything possible to produce a safe event, this is a joint effort – we ask that you, as a participant, please do your part and follow the safety guidelines set by the authorities and race officials.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in the matter and look forward to getting back out there!
